Unfortunately, the programme is very dense, so there is not much room for spare time during the day. Therefore, we will have to schedule ou social activities onto the evenings. Please note: Participation in all activities is included in the participation fee. Here they are:
Barbeque dinner on Sunday, May 9th 20:00
A barbeque dinner is held on the first evening (Sunday 9th May 2010 20:00). In case of good weather this will be held on the terrace of Hotel Ebertor (the conference venue) in front of the Rhine. In adverse conditions the barbeque will take place in the monastery cellar "Klosterkeller", which is acccesible from the ground floor of the hotel. Vegetarian alternatives will be served at the dinner. We will also ensure that late-comers get something.
Boat trip with conference dinner, Monday May 10th 20:00
On the second day we plan a boat trip on the Rhine with dinner on board. Our boat "Rheinkrone" from the Hebel-Linie in Boppard will depart on Monday, May 10th at 20:00 from the pier near Hotel Ebertor. To reach the jetty, walk out of the hotel to the river and turn right (upstream) on the river bank alley. You will soon see the boat (logically) on your left.
The trip wil take us through the UNESCO Heritage site Upper Middle Rhine valley, passing numerous castles and finishing at the rock "Loreley" (known from Heinrich Heine's poem).
A three-course dinner will be served on the boat. The first course (soup) an the dessert are served on the table, the main courses you can pick freely on the buffet. Vegetarian altternatives will be available.
Mineral water will be available ad libitum. To the soup a glass of beer will be served for free. To the main course and the dessert a glass of wine will be served without charge. If participants want something more, they can get additional drinks (to be paid individually) from the boat's bar.
The return to Boppard will be around 22:30
Evening walk with vintner's dinneer on Tuesday May 11th 19:00
After 2 days of dense scientific programme, it will be nice to get some fresh air and some exercise to burn off the kJ from the conference dinner. Therefore we organise a guided evening walk up via Gideonseck to the Vierseenblick with magnificient views over the
Rhine valley (not to be missed, thee are people travellling to Boppard solely to enjoy them) and further on through the famous vineyards “Bopparder Hamm”. At the "Mandelsteinhütte", we will have a vintner's dinner viewing the Rhine valley. Therafter we will be able to taste some local wines in a commented tasting. From the dinner, we will take a night torch walk home to Hotel Ebertor.
Departure is from the lobby at Hotel Ebertor at 19:00 sharp.
Equipment
Shoes with good profile are a must. Trainers are OK (as long as their profile is good). In case of a hot evening, it might be a good idea to take some water.
Alternative
For people wanting to take a more leisurely stroll, we will have a group walking through the vineyards to the Mandelsteinhütte. Here good ordinary shoes are sufficient (no high heels, plateau soles, slippery leather soles or similar, please). For people who have difficulties to walk, we will organise taxi transportation.
Important notice: Participants taking part in these excursions do so at their own risk. Conference organisers will not be liable for any damage to life and limb or the property of participants.
