Access by air
To reach Boppard, it is best to fly into Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). A further possibility is the Köln-Bonn Airport (CGN). Several low-cost airlines (Easyjet, Air Berlin, Germanwings etc.) and other carriers serve this airport. Another alternative is the airport Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), served by the low-cost carrier Ryanair. For information how to continue your travel from those airports see below.
Access by train
General information
To access the venue you have to alight from the train at Boppard Main Station (Boppard Hbf) Information about the German and local trains and timetables are available on the excellent website of the German Railways. This site contains on-line timetable enquiry service in 8 languages. There you can put either "Boppard Hauptbahnhof" or "Boppard Hbf" as your final destination.
Please note: It is highly recommended to buy train tickets in advance (at vending machines) in the railway station or in the travel centres (DB Reisezentrum) located at large stations or via the internet. A supplementary fee is charged for buying tickets from the conductor.
From Frankfurt International Airport (FRA)
From the airport station (you have to go to the one for long–distance trains, DB- “Fernbahnhof”) hourly trains go to Boppard on Sunday May 9th. You will have to change at Mainz or Bingen (please note that there are 2 railway stations at Bingen). On Wednesday 12th direct trains operate to Frankfurt Airport from Boppard. Pure travel time from Boppard to Frankfurt Airport is about 90 minutes.
From Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN)
From the airport railway station take the regional train (Regional Express) to Koblenz main railway station. From there you can continue to Boppard by train. Travel time from Cologne Airport to Boppard is about 2 hours.
From Frankfurt Hahn Airport (HHN)
From there take the airport bus to Koblenz railway station, and the train to Boppard (check at the German railway server for connections). Travel time from Frankfurt Hahn to Koblenz railway station is about 1 h 10 minutes, the train from Koblenz to Boppard takes about 15 minutes.
From elsewhere in Europe
For most travellers the best alternative will be to go first to Koblenz or Mainz main station. From there direct connections to Boppard operate. Check the website of the German Railways for timetables.
From Boppard railway station to Hotel Ebertor
Exit the railway through the passenger tunnel on the city side (towards the Rhine, on the left of the exit there is a small restaurant). Emerging on the road turn left. The meeting venue (Hotel Ebertor) is on the right after 100 metres. A small map of the hotel area is shown below.
Access by car
From the North
From Koblenz take the German Motorway 61 (E31) direction Mainz/Mannheim. Taxe exit 41 to Boppard. Turn right emerging from the exit onto road 321 (Hunsrückhöhenstrasse), in the direction Koblenz and after 300 m turn right again onto road L209 towards Boppard. Reaching Boppard, rurn right on a T-crossing (continuing on raod L209) onto Sabelstrasse. After a bend you see the railway on the left passing over a viaduct. After 200 m turn right and immediately right again and after 200 m right through the viaduct you seen before. After exiting the viaduct turn you pass under a road and then turn left left onto Heerstrasse. After 300 m you will see the hotel on the right (150 m after passing the railway station on the left).
From the South
From Mannheim or Bingen take the German Motorway 61 (E31) direction Koblenz. Taxe exit “Boppard” (number 41). From the West / (France)
Take the E44 from Luxemburg via Trier in the direction Koblenz (different German motorway numbers). At the Kreuz Koblenz take the German Motorway 61 (E31) direction Mainz/Mannheim. Taxe exit “Boppard” (number 41). Turn right from emerging from the exit onto road 321 (Hunsrückhöhenstrasse), in thedirection Koblenz and after 300 m turn right agaid onto road L209 towards Boppard. Reaching Boppard, rurn right on a T-crossing (continuing on raod L209) onto Sabelstrasse. After a bend you see the railway on the left passing over a viaduct. Access by boat
It’s certainly not the worst idea to come to Boppard by boat through the romantic Rhine valley. The Köln Düsseldorfer line operates scheduled boat services between Cologne and Mainz that stop in Boppard. For local excursions one can also take the Loreley Linie and the Hebel Linie.
